“Course-oriented Social Software” by Kathleen Fitzpatrick and Jason Brown of Pomona
[I don’t have any notes for this one because I was too busy watching and listening – I missed some parts of the previous one because I was trying to get stuff written down. They had some very interesting stuff to say and Kathleen demo-ed some excellent use of blogs for a class. Partly the class she taught simply was able to take advantage fo the medium, but in large part she was smart about how to use them.
A great and easy trick she used was to make the blogs open to the public (which allowed the larger world to chime in on occasion and made the blogging more ‘real’), but have students use a screen name to protect their identity. People in the class got a list that mapped screen name to person, but student privacy was protected from the general public.
This would be a good presentation for many of our faculty to see.]
